This educational session is designed specifically for cardiology residents, fellows, and early-career attendings who are navigating the financial complexities of medical training and transition into practice.
The program will address several of the most consequential financial decisions physicians face early in their careers, including student loan strategy, income protection planning, and employment contract evaluation. The goal is to provide practical, objective guidance that helps physicians avoid common pitfalls and make informed decisions during a pivotal stage of their professional lives.
Topics will include:
Strategic approaches to managing and optimizing federal and private student loans, including repayment programs and forgiveness considerations
Disability and life insurance planning, with an emphasis on own-occupation coverage and protecting future earning potential
Key components of physician employment contracts, including compensation structures, restrictive covenants, malpractice considerations, and negotiation risks
If time permits, a brief overview of common financial mistakes made by young physicians and how to proactively avoid them
The session will conclude with an open Q&A to address participant-specific questions.
This program is purely educational in nature and intended to equip physicians with foundational financial knowledge relevant to their stage of training and career development.
